Wisconsin Veterans Museum, Madison, Wisconsin, is a very famous military museum which has exhibits spanning from the Civil War up to the present time. You will find an amazing amount to look at when you visit this award winning museum.
For a start, the exhibit area is 10,000 square feet and, within this, there is a wealth of interesting and informative exhibits. Inside the museum are large murals which really illustrate how the Wisconsin Veterans served in areas such as tropical jungles and remote wooded areas and these bring a very real life feeling to the exhibition. Life size figures are set in these scenes, so you really identify with the Veterans and their situation. The scenes portrayed are from both the nineteenth century and twentieth century. There is a special area devoted to the history of the Second World War and you will certainly be impressed by the aviation display which includes a helicopter and planes hanging from the ceiling.
The museum is in downtown Madison and there is parking nearby. Admission is free and the attraction is open daily throughout the year. In addition to the permanent exhibitions there are frequently temporary exhibitions, so it is well worth keeping an eye on the website to see what is on show. As well as the exhibitions there are educational events and a research centre which houses photographs, maps, documents and posters, plus much more. It is possible to arrange a group tour of this if you want to.
Whether you are a committed historian, or just someone who likes to dwell on history from time to time, you will find plenty to interest you on your visit to Wisconsin Veterans Museum, so allow plenty of time for your visit.
