The civic museum of Museo Correr is located on St Mark's Square in Venice. This is a big museum and it is recommended that while touring it the visitor has a guide book with them. It is a fascinating tour.
This museum holds art, documents, and artifacts of Venice and maps that trace the history and daily life of the people of Venice in the 13th to 16th century through paintings, sculpture, coins and weapons. The museum holds a collection of work by Antoniao Canova, a Venetian sculptor who worked in marble.
A must see is the works of the Bellini family which include the Jacopo Bellini’s Crucifixion.
The final part of the museum is the Libreria Sansoviniana, which a wonderful mix of a historical collection with a magnificent old building is historically important itself.
