For those who enjoy outdoor recreation, Hueston Woods State Park offers 3,000 acres of pure heaven. Located at College Corner, Ohio, about 40 miles northwest of Cincinnati, Hueston Woods State Park centers on Acton Lake–a 625-acre, manmade body of water. Acton Lake gives anglers a chance to fish for a number of game species such as catfish, largemouth bass, and crappie. The lake has a launch ramp, marina, and fishing pier to support water activities.
Twelve trails circle around the park. While some cater to hikers others give mountain bikers, equestrians, bird watchers, and fossil hunters a place to play. Equestrians can rent a horse at the stables or bring their own–the park has a horse arena and day camp area available. Bird watchers will enjoy the bird watching areas and bird blinds scattered throughout the park. The park has several fossil location areas for rock hounds.
Hueston Woods State Park also offers action oriented outdoor sports. Golf, archery, paintball, and baseball are just some of the activities supported. Once worn out from a good day’s play, a visitor has a number of choices for staying overnight. The 96-room Acton Lodge overlooks the lake and gives visitor’s access to Wi-Fi, fine dining, shopping and the other luxuries many enjoy. Other choices include rental cottages and camp grounds. Regardless of how you choose to spend your stay, you are sure to have a good time.
